The University Hospital in Ostrava has opened a brand new Mother and Child Care Pavilion, which is one of the most modern perinatal centres in the Czech Republic. This pavilion will bring all the facilities of the Gynaecology and Obstetrics Clinic under one roof.
Lower Vítkovice welcomed a record of 1,655,514 visitors last year
Last year marked another record for the national cultural monument Lower Vítkovice in Ostrava. For the first time in its history, the unique industrial area welcomed a total of 1,655,514 visitors. In 2017, the number of visitors reached 1.5 million.

Mošnov Strategic Industrial Zone to Welcome a New Investor
At their December meeting, the City Assembly approved the sale of land in the Mošnov Strategic Industrial Zone. On an area of about 20,000 m2, the Chinese company XZB will in two years build a new modern plant with fully automated operations employing at least 50 people, including at least 10 high value added jobs. The land has been sold for CZK 7.14 million excluding VAT.
2020 IIHF World Junior Championship in Ostrava: only a year!
The 2020 IIHF World Junior Championship will be held in Ostrava and Třinec from 26 December 2019 to 5 January 2020. This will be the third time for the Czech Republic to host the Championship; Ostrava and Frýdek-Místek hosted the championship in 1994.

Ostrava believes in hydrogen future
The City of Ostrava and the Moravian-Silesian Region will support the use of hydrogen propulsion in public transport. Tomáš Macura, the Mayor of Ostrava, and Ivo Vondrák, the Governor of the Moravian-Silesian Region, signed a Memorandum of Cooperation, confirming the intention to develop this clean technology.
Shared bikes will be back next year
Bicycle sharing has completed its first season in Ostrava. The bikes were used by more than 16,000 users, who have travelled the distance of 130,000 kilometers.

Ostrava supercomputing centre to increase capacity and get an upgrade
The upgrade of HPC systems for the IT4Innovations National Supercomputing Centre will extend the Anselm cluster. The supercomputer will have a theoretical performance of more than 800 teraflops per second, making it more than 8 times as powerful as its predecessor commissioned in 2013. The computing capacities of the systems operated by IT4Innovations are available to the entire scientific community of the Czech Republic as part of grant competitions.
Porsche Engineering Services opened its branch in Ostrava
Porsche Engineering Services (PES), a provider of development services, has officially opened its branch in Ostrava yesterday. It currently employs more than 20 people, which should increase to 50 by the end of 2020. The company will focus on research and development of current automotive trends such as electromobility, autonomous driving and smart mobility.
The innovation center looked back on a successful year
The Moravian-Silesian Innovation Center (MSIC) held an annual meeting after a year and a quarter from its start. Entrepreneurs, technology visionaries and shareholders' representatives participated. The meeting, titled Innovation consomme - "Inovační vývar", summed up the best of what has been achieved in the innovation ecosystem.
Chinese company to modernize the Ostrava chemical plant
The Memorandum of Cooperation between the Moravian-Silesian Region, the City of Ostrava and the Shandong Province of China is becoming more specific. Wanhua Industrial Group, the Chinese owner of BorsodChem MCHZ, has confirmed a CZK 800 million investment in modernizing its Ostrava company.

The participants of one of the most important architectural competitions in the city's history, the competition for the new Ostrava concert hall, are already known. It is going to have two rounds and should be completed next June.
The university facility for Ostrava worth a billion CZK

Ostrava has the most modern CNG filling station in the Czech Republic
The largest and most modern filling station for CNG (compressed natural gas) in the Czech Republic was commissioned by the Ostrava Transport Company in Hranečník garages. This is another step towards the greening of public transport in the city.
New car parks to relieve the centre of Ostrava
Hundreds of new parking spaces will be built near the City Centre. In the wider centre, there will be traffic changes and restrictions in the first quarter of next year, contributing to greater protection for residents. The currently free parking spaces will be reserved for the "A" and "R" card holders.
Ostrava coordinated the largest exposition in the history of Expo Real
From 8 to 10 October, Munich hosted the 21st Annual Expo Real, the prestigious international trade fair for real estate and investment. This year's Czech presentation was the largest in the history of Expo Real. The entire Czech exposition was coordinated by Ostrava.
