Ostrava is offering two attractive sites for development in the heart of the city

Two vacant sites in the city centre – known as the "Ostrava Teardrop" and the "Ostrava Trident" – have been offered for sale to investors. The City has recently announced a call for bids. Both sites are in the very heart of the city centre, with excellent access to transport and technical infrastructure. An investor could build a hotel, offices, a residential development, or premises for various services. The City will be continuing to sell off more land in the future – it is currently preparing new calls for bids focusing on residential developments.

Ostrava has the highest possible rating in the country

The rating agency Moody's updated the City of Ostrava's rating. The City's rating was confirmed as A1 with positive outlook. Currently the City of Ostrava has the same rating as the Czech Republic, i.e. the highest rating that a Czech city can be assigned.

An architectural competition will decide on the design of a new parking garage

The City of Ostrava is announcing a fresh architectural competition to decide on the design for a new parking garage near the city centre. The location is a highly visible and lucrative site. The capacity of the garage will be at least 600 vehiclesThe deadline for the submission of proposals is 13 September 2019.

Moravian-Silesian Region and the City of Ostrava are introducing smart technologies

The Moravian-Silesian Region and the City of Ostrava participated in Urbis Smart City Fair, which focuses on the concept of smart cities. Its second year took place on 5–6 June at the Brno Exhibition Centre. Smart technologies of the Region and the City were presented using augmented reality. The City of Ostrava has presented its smart solutions in the areas of transport, water management and air protection using greenery.

Smart Innovation Centre Ostrava

The multi-purpose building of the Smart Innovation Centre (SIC) in Ostrava was opened for the first time just a few days ago. The centre will be home to start-up companies from a wide range of industries. Interest in the new Ostrava SIC is high, and at least half of the centre's 11 000 square metres of space has already been occupied.

Ostrava´s office market has a great potential

Deloitte's and ABSL´s reputable reports shows potential for increasing office space in Ostrava. At the end of 2018, the total area of modern office space in the city was 213,400 m2 and the vacancy rate was at the lowest recorded level - 9.2%.

   

Table Tennis European Youth Championships are returning to Ostrava after six years

From 7–16 July this year, Ostrava will welcome over 600 of Europe's top junior and cadet players from 45 countries, who will compete for 14 sets of medals. The Table Tennis European Youth Championships are one of the biggest events in the sport.

Ostrava Transport Company to build "Smart stops"

The concept of a smart stop is an innovative approach in the concept of systems for smart cities. The current form of the stop can be decided by the citizens themselves. The results of their vote will be presented by the authors of the project in early June. The Ostrava Transport Company will then ensure the implementation of the winning design.

The festival summer in Ostrava will again have a star cast

A number of music festivals have already been tradition for the Ostrava summer. In addition to concerts of more or less well-known performers, also brings entertainment in the form of interesting workshops, theater performances or sports activities.

The end of June will bring one of the events that has become a tradition for Ostrava summer, namely the Festival in the Streets, which will be held this year on June 28 - 29 at Masaryk Square, Černá louka Exhibition Ground and Silesian-Ostrava Castle. Also this year will offer entertainment in the form of concerts of well-known and beginning artists, workshops, street theater or sports activities.

At the beginning of summer holidays, 3 to 6 July, Beats for Love will get Ostrava dancing. It is the Central Europe's largest electronic dance music festival, bringing people from many different cultures together to celebrate their shared love of dance music. This year's festival will feature twice as many performers from other countries as the previous year, and it will also offer a range of interesting discussions and workshops, plus the first ever school for DJs. As in previous years, charity activities will form an important part of the programme.

In the middle of July, the colorful Colours of Ostrava will take place. The festival is a thrilling and breathtaking musical whirl, filled with pop, rock, world music, jazz, electronics .... theater performances, debates and workshops ... there's so much more. Also this year, it will take place in the unique complex of the Lower Vítkovice Area on 17 - 20 July.
