The firm's executive director and senior partner, Tristán López-Chicheri, and the lead architect for the New Bazaly project, Guillermo Guso, were received at the New Town Hall, toured Dolní Vítkovice, and served as the principal speakers at an evening debate within a thematic exhibition.

Updated 13.01.2026 11:50 The City of Ostrava has prepared an exhibition showcasing the competition architectural designs for the New Bazaly football stadium.

Ostrava Mayor Jan Dohnal, together with Interior Minister Lubomír Metnar, the regional governor, and representatives of the Fire Rescue Service, Ostrava Municipal Police, Regional Police Directorate of the Czech Republic, and Ambulance Service, visited the integrated dispatch centres in Ostrava on Christmas Eve.

This year, Ostrava commemorates 100 years since the first charitable collection held at the Christmas Tree of the Republic. The origins of this tradition in Czechoslovakia date back to 1919.

More than 150 students and academic staff from ENGEES – the prestigious French National School for Water and Environmental Engineering in Strasbourg – visited Ostrava’s New City Hall. In the grand assembly hall, they engaged in a discussion on environmental topics with Mayor Jan Dohnal.

Updated 24.11.2025 07:58 Masaryk Square will once again feature a live Christmas tree as part of the Ostrava Christmas festivities, which begin on 22 November. The Douglas fir tree, donated to the city by the Pikna family from Stará Bělá, will be ceremonially lit on Saturday, 29 November.

The New Town Hall, a national cultural monument housing the Ostrava city administration, is inseparable from its highly visible tower clock featuring four dials, each 3.5 meters in diameter.

Updated 04.11.2025 12:08 The City of Ostrava has selected the winning design proposal for the construction of the New Bazaly Stadium. The design was chosen for its outstanding response not only to the competition brief but also to the principles of contemporary football stadium architecture. It stands out from other entries through its distinctive form, façade concept, choice of materials, and overall balanced composition. The jury commended the professionalism, commitment and high quality of work demonstrated by all four finalist teams throughout the project’s development.

The international jury of the architectural competition for the New Bazaly Stadium, chaired by renowned Irish architect Valerie Mulvin, has convened for the final time. During its last meeting, the jury deliberated over the four finalist proposals for the design of the football stadium and determined their ranking to the best of its judgement.

Representatives of the City of Ostrava welcomed a delegation from the Ukrainian partner city of Dnipro to the historic New City Hall. The delegation was led by Borys Filatov, Mayor of this major central Ukrainian metropolis. Ostrava and Dnipro established their partnership in May 2024, and since then, the two cities have actively cooperated in the fields of education, culture, and youth exchange.

The Ostrava City Council has approved funding for the Fajna Zastávka project – a new community space in Ostrava-Kunčičky. After extensive preparations, Ostrava Zoo has officially begun construction of a long-awaited exhibit and breeding facility for penguins. The ceremonial groundbreaking took place on Monday, September 22, marked by a special event titled "Penguins Are Rolling into Ostrava!".

The 25th anniversary edition of NATO Days at Leoš Janáček Airport Ostrava in Mošnov once again delivered an unforgettable weekend of aviation and ground demonstrations. On 28 September 2025, Ostrava will celebrate Czech Statehood Day with its traditional Open Day at the New City Hall, offering a rich program for visitors both inside the historic building and on Prokeš Square in front of it. The afternoon, running from 2 to 6 p.m., will carry a nostalgic post-war theme.

Statutory City of Ostrava has once again confirmed its leading position in the national competition Citizen-Friendly Office. In the 10th year of the contest, organized by the Ministry of the Interior of the Czech Republic, Ostrava ranked first in the Moravian-Silesian Region—for the seventh year in a row.
