Trams are not running through Náměstí Republiky due to reconstruction
The main transport hub in the heart of Ostrava, Náměstí Republiky, is getting a new, friendly and modern look. Its reconstruction is now in full swing. Currently, bridges have been closed, including for tram traffic. You can find clearly prepared replacement connections at this link: on the transport company's website in the special section.

At this moment (July 21), a tram closure has also begun between the Karolina and Náměstí Republiky stops, which will last until November 29 this year. Replacement bus transport will be provided at intervals of three to five minutes throughout, with an extension at night to the Main Railway Station.
Rail transport closures through Náměstí Republiky were in place to await the end of the major music festivals Colours of Ostrava and Beats for Love, in order to avoid traffic complications and for maximum comfort for visitors and residents of Ostrava.
The reconstruction of the key transport hub of Ostrava is divided into three stages.
The first, which is in full swing, focuses on the reconstruction of the tram line, platforms, underpasses and adjacent roads. Both motorists and passengers using public transport must expect traffic restrictions. Road traffic has been limited in the area since July 6. Both lanes towards Poruba are completely closed and partially also in the direction of the city center.
Construction work in the next stages will not stop in 2026. Passengers can now set personalized notifications about closures or changes to timetables via the MojeDPO application or the website dpo.cz/online. In addition to improving the entire area, the reconstruction of Náměstí Republiky will bring greater comfort and smoother transfers thanks to extended platforms and modernization of the rail infrastructure.
A total revitalization will be carried out, all surfaces will be renewed, better access to the platforms will be provided, and the overall safety of the area will be significantly increased. The tram shelters on the surface will also be completely new, and of course the tram tracks will be new.
However, it is absolutely necessary to reconstruct the lower part of the underpasses and their insulation, which are in poor technical condition. Important information is that the aforementioned repairs have been managed to be combined with the reconstruction of road bridges, and the constructions are connected to each other. In June 2026, the Republic Square will have a completely new coat, with a high-quality lining, to put it mildly. The costs will amount to approximately 314 million CZK.
