Shakespeare’s tragedies will be represented this year in Ostrava by the classic productions of Othello and Hamlet. They will be complemented by the play Learlike, which, as the sole performance, will take place at the Komorní Scéna Aréna, where it will be performed in Czech with English surtitles. This is a modern adaptation from a “contemporary female perspective.”
The comedic aspect of Shakespeare’s work will be showcased through the plays Twelfth Night, Love’s Labour’s Lost, As You Like It, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The heart will be warmed by the fairy-tale story of The Winter’s Tale, which, despite its title, is perfectly suited to the romance of a summer evening.
Among the partners of the Summer Shakespeare Festival is the statutory city of Ostrava, which has been a long-standing supporter of the festival since the first Ostrava edition in 2008. Since then, the city has contributed a total of 36.52 million Czech crowns, including 3.32 million crowns this year.
