The upgraded facility, situated on the roof of OU’s Sports and Behavioral Health Center, had been temporarily closed for repairs due to surface damage from prior use. The renovation, carried out in cooperation with Atelier Simona Group and IMOS Brno, addresses long-term user needs and expands the usability of this unique outdoor space.

At the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Deputy Mayor Andrea Hoffmannová praised the improvements:

"This modernized sports facility, with its high-quality and durable surface, will serve students, athletes, and the public alike—for training, leisure activities, and community events. We supported the upgrade with CZK 1.8 million, as part of Ostrava’s ongoing commitment to improving sports infrastructure citywide."

The newly installed Juta Grass – Play Comfort surface is gentle on joints, non-slip, weather-resistant, and suitable for both recreational running and formal sports training. It also meets the technical standards required in a university environment and is usable year-round.

Dean of the Faculty of Education, Prof. Daniel Jandačka, emphasized the project's collaborative nature:

“Thanks to support from the City of Ostrava and shared recognition of the campus’s value to the broader community, we’ve delivered a space that is more inclusive, more functional, and better aligned with the needs of our users.”

With this renovation, the University of Ostrava reaffirms its commitment to supporting active lifestyles, high-quality education, and community openness. The timely completion of the track also ensures a modern and professional environment for the upcoming Czech Academic Games 2025, one of the country’s premier collegiate sports events.
