News from the Ostrava’s labour market
As of last June, the Labour Office registered a total of 13,748 job seekers in Ostrava, of which 6,969 were women. There are 2.2 job seekers per vacancy. The unemployment rate reached 5.8% in Ostrava, 4.7% in the Moravian-Silesian Region and 2.9% in the Czech Republic.
All 6 districts of the Region saw a month-on-month decrease in the number of unemployed persons. In four districts, the share of unemployed persons was equal to or higher than the national average, namely in Karviná (7.1%), Ostrava (5.8%), Bruntál (5.2%) and Opava (2.9%).
Unemployment rate has followed the predicted course over the past month. Employers are still interested in new employees, especially in technical and manual professions, while the labour market is also affected by seasonal works, which are in full swing. This concerns especially construction, gastronomy and tourism, agriculture, horticulture, forestry, spas and mining.
