During the Colours of Ostrava event, Ostrava once again proved itself to be an educated, creative and inspiring city. It was a joint work of the city of Ostrava, the University of Ostrava and VŠB – Technical University of Ostrava.
Members of the city management gave lectures at UniverCity Ostrava!!!
The city of Ostrava presented itself with three separate discussions. These showed its thoughtful approach to urban planning, housing and cultural heritage.
The first of the topics was participatory and sustainable housing in cities, with inspiration from Vienna and an emphasis on the role of cities in supporting community life.
Subsequently, Ostrava focused on the planned construction of a new football stadium in Bazaly, not only as a sports infrastructure, but also as a catalyst for urban development.
The third lecture brought the restoration of the Grossmann Villa closer to the audience – a significant architectural monument that combines history with a new vision of its use.
On the UniverCity stage, Mayor Jan Dohnal presented the city’s intention to build Nové Bazaly to the audience.
Sport is a phenomenon, that affects our lives in many ways. Football and hockey temples determine the character of many city districts, influence the infrastructure and movement of a huge number of people. And Ostrava is on the threshold of a new chapter in the field of sports infrastructure. During the lecture, the speakers presented the current challenges and opportunities that the planned construction of a new football stadium in Bazalé brings to the city. We heard details of the ongoing architectural competition, visions of the future and how a modern stadium can affect life in the city – not only for athletes, but also for the general public. The speakers were Mayor Jan Dohnal, MAPPA head Ondřej Vysloužil and architects Ondřej Chybík and Rudolf Müller.
Grossmann's Villa Comes to Life
Grossmann's Villa is one of the significant architectural monuments of Ostrava with an interesting story.
The lecture, given by Deputy Mayor Lucie Baránková Vilamová, introduced the public not only to the historical context and architectural qualities of this building, but also to the process of its restoration.
We found out what the restoration of such a building entails, what challenges it brings, and what role the villa can play in the life of the city and its inhabitants.
The story of a house that comes to life again - with respect for history and visions for the future was very powerful.
The speakers were Lucie Baránková Vilamová, Tomáš Rusek, Martin Strakoš, and Daniel Vaněk.
In addition to the joint discussion forum with universities, city representatives also presented themselves at the Luxor stage, where Deputy Mayor Andrea Hoffmannová, together with Simon Klinga and Yemi A.D. devoted, unconventionally in the role of moderator, to the topic of talent management and talent attraction.
