Grossmann Villa, often referred to as Ostrava’s architectural jewel after its recently completed restoration, is preparing to enchant visitors with newly furnished interiors. This autumn and next spring, the villa will be enriched with period-appropriate furniture, carpets, textiles, and decorative elements—exceptional pieces showcasing true master craftsmanship.

The additions will enhance key rooms including the former owner’s bedroom, a second bedroom, the music salon, and the representative staircase hall. Deputy Mayor Břetislav Riger emphasized that the villa’s revival does not end with its reconstruction: „As a city, we are committed to protecting our architectural and historical heritage, and Grossmann Villa is a remarkable example of both. It deserves to shine in its full glory. Beyond being a beloved and frequently visited landmark, the villa also serves as a venue for cultural, educational, and community events, strengthening the social life of Ostrava.”

Work is already underway, with carpets laid in several rooms—including a rare piece from Kashan in Iran, a Pakistani Jaldar woven from sheep’s wool and silk, and naturally dyed Mauri rugs from Afghanistan and Pakistan. Elegant curtains and brass fittings are also being installed in the music salon, with completion expected this October.

Furniture production is in progress as well. Bespoke beds, tables, chairs, armchairs, benches, wardrobes, and sideboards are being prepared, with delivery scheduled for March 2026. A rattan furniture set will also complement the interiors.

In parallel, ceiling restoration work in the gentlemen’s room and dining room is set to be completed by September, alongside stained glass windows, brass ornamentation, and other decorative details.

The overall interior upgrades represent an investment of nearly CZK 8.15 million (excluding VAT).

Grossmann Villa was built between 1922 and 1924 as the family residence of Ostrava architect and builder František Grossmann. Celebrated in its time for its fairy-tale elegance, the villa changed ownership several times after the tragic death of the Grossmann couple in 1933. It later served as a school facility before standing abandoned from 2005. Thanks to an extensive renovation completed in spring 2024, the villa has regained its splendor and once again plays an active role in the cultural and social life of Ostrava.
