Nearly CZK 6.6 million will be allocated to Ostrava's municipal districts, the Ostrava Municipal Police, and other municipal organizations to support activities in the field of crime prevention, in line with the "Crime Prevention Strategy of the Statutory City of Ostrava for the Period 2023–2027." Ensuring the safety of residents remains one of the city’s top priorities.

The Petr Bezruč Theatre has won the Theatre Critics’ Award in the Theatre of the Year category. The Theatre Critics’ Awards are annual honors recognizing artistic achievements in Czech theatre, awarded since 2014 based on critics’ votes. The survey among theatre critics is conducted, and the awards are presented, by the magazine Svět a divadlo (World and Theatre).

The two-story attic house in Stará Bělá, known as Zlatý Jelen, has undergone a major reconstruction. After approximately twenty years of abandonment, this late 19th-century building is regaining its former glory. The former inn, which has served various purposes over time, is now becoming a true cultural center for the community. 

The September flood in Ostrava affected many key locations across the city, with one of the most significant consequences being the shutdown of the Central Wastewater Treatment Plant. The extent of the damage was estimated at up to CZK 500 million. Its restoration was a priority for the city, and as soon as post-flood conditions allowed, efforts to restart the facility and resolve this emergency situation began.

The highly anticipated international tennis Davis Cup took place at the RT Torax Arena in Poruba, which welcomed the popular tournament back for the first time since 2018. Following the draw for the specific qualifying matches held at the New City Hall in Ostrava, spectators in Poruba were treated to a showdown between the Czech tennis players and their South Korean counterparts. 

The law establishes the so-called nighttime quiet period from 10 PM to 6 AM. However, it also allows municipalities to shorten this period in exceptional cases by issuing generally binding regulations. Ostrava grants these exceptions exclusively to cultural, sports, and social events that significantly contribute not only to local but often also to regional cultural life, thus greatly enhancing the city's attractiveness for both its residents and visitors.

With the very first edition of the Ostrava City Ball on March 21, 2025, the city of Ostrava is creating a new tradition. All music and dance enthusiasts from the general public are invited. The ball also has a significant charitable dimension. 

The city of Ostrava has begun accepting applications for a selection process for the rental of residential units in the recently constructed Nové Lauby residential complex. The city owns a total of 31 residential units, 17 cellar compartments, and 119 parking spaces in the complex.

The 2025 edition of the prestigious international athletics meeting, Czech Indoor Gala, will take place on February 4th at the Athletics Hall in Ostrava – Vítkovice, from 4:30 PM to 7:00 PM. Several record holders from previous editions of the event will be returning to Ostrava, promising the audience an extraordinary sporting experience.

How to get children away from mobile phones and computers is showcased by the Ostrava Sports Games, whose fifth edition is organized by the city of Ostrava in collaboration with the Association of School Sports Clubs.

A new fully enclosed shooting range will be constructed on the site of the historically known shooting range on Plzeňská Street. The facility will be built according to the project documentation from ADEA projekt s.r.o. The construction site was handed over to the contractor, JTA s.r.o., in December. 

Ostrava has implemented its own construction regulations. The "Ostrava Construction Regulations" provide detailed guidelines on how buildings should look and the standards that should be followed in Ostrava. This framework allows for a better consideration of the city's unique developmental needs, which differ significantly from those of a typical Czech city. 

On Wednesday, January 8, 2026, the Directorate of Roads and Highways (ŘSD) will close one of the bridges on Rudná Street in the Svinov local district. The closure will also affect Polanecká Street, over which the local bridges run. Preparatory work will begin at the site ahead of the actual demolition. Motorists and, the public transport bus lines will experience traffic restrictions.
