Janáček Philharmonic Ostrava will offer an exceptional season

The 2018/2019 concert season of the Janáček Philharmonic Ostrava is stellar, without any doubt. Elite musicians have accepted the invitation to perform with the Ostrava orchestra. First of all, we must mention the three winners of the most difficult and also the most prestigious music competition – the Queen Elizabeth Competition in Brussels. Visitors can look forward to excellent pianists – Boris Giltburg (2013 winner) and the biggest Czech star Lukáš Vondráček (2016 winner), and the Latvian violinist Baita Skride (2001 winner).

IT4Innovations is developing a unique tool for use in medicine

Have you ever heard of the open-source software Blender, a comprehensive 3D visualization software? Experts from the IT4Innovation National Supercomputing Centre in Ostrava started to use Blender during collaboration with physicians from the University Hospital Ostrava. They are developing a unique tool to display and process medical data in the form of computer tomography and magnetic resonance imaging.

NATO days to offer a varied programme

On 15 and 16 September 2018, Ostrava will host the 18th NATO Days, the largest security-focused event in Europe, and promises a busy programme filled with static demonstrations and a commemoration of the 100th anniversary of independent Czechoslovakia and its armed forces. At the same time, Leoš Janáček Airport in Mošnov will host the 9th annual Air Force Days of the Czech Army. The event is organized by Jagello 2000, and the city of Ostrava is one of its partners.

Ostrava announces an architectural competition for its new concert hall

Ostrava's planned new concert hall is fast becoming a reality. Following on from four previous successful architectural competitions for other projects, the City has announced a new competition for a design of the new concert hall, combined with the modernization of the City of Ostrava Cultural Centre (Dům kultury města Ostravy). The competition will feature some of the world's top architectural studios – but it will be open to an unlimited number of applicants.

Number of card payments in Ostrava public transport is skyrocketing even after two years

Ostrava wants to connect with the port in Antwerp

Ostrava is working towards connecting the city and the Mošnov Strategic Industrial Zone with the port city of Antwerp. The city has an exceptionally suitable location for pan-European logistics, together with the construction of the Ostrava Airport Multimodal Park in Mošnov, important regional entreprenuers and new operators in multimodal logistics centre in Mošnov, that all together form a strong argument for a positive outcome in the ongoing strategic negotiations.

The Continental Cup, the third largest athletics competition after the Olympic Games and the World Cup, will be held in Ostrava on 8 and 9 September. The best of the world’s athletes will be competing in Ostrava for two days. The Continental Cup is a reward for our city for the successful organization of sports events such as the World Ice Hockey Championship, the European Table Tennis Championship, the Davis Cup and the Fed Cup, the Golden Spike and more.
