In 2025, the Women’s World Floorball Championship will return to the Czech Republic after a twelve-year gap. Like last time, the host cities will be Brno and Ostrava, with the final round of games to be played at the Ostravar Arena. Financial support from the Moravian-Silesian Region and the City of Ostrava will be a key factor in the tournament’s success.

The Women’s World Floorball Championship takes place every two years. In 2025 it will be held from 6–14 December, featuring teams from 16 countries all around the world. The Czech team – which won bronze at this year’s recent championship in Singapore – will again be one of the favourites to finish in a medal-winning position, and it will be cheered on by tens of thousands of spectators in the host arenas, with millions more watching on television in dozens of countries.

Czech Floorball President Daniel Novák commented: “I’m delighted that the championship will be returning to venues that we all know very well. The finals of the 2023 women’s world championship were also held in Ostrava, we played the group games of the 2008 men’s world championship here as well as two outstanding superfinals, and we mustn’t forget the final tournament of the Champions Cup. All these events were very well supported by local fans, and I’m confident that the 2025 championship will build on what we have already achieved here, with excellent organization and a superb atmosphere.

Ostrava’s Mayor Jan Dohnal added: “I’m very pleased that this prestigious global sporting event is returning to Ostrava. We have wonderful sports fans here, and we’re renowned for organizing top-level sporting events. The city has supported sports very strongly for decades. Besides offering spectators a wonderful experience, the 2025 championship will also help boost the development of all sport in the city, as well as supporting tourism and showcasing our city and region to the wider world.”

Jan Krkoška, the Governor of the Moravian-Silesian Region, likewise expressed his satisfaction: “I’m proud that the region will once again be hosting a top-level global sporting event. We will be contributing 3 million CZK to support the championship. I’m confident that the tournament will have a positive impact on the development of sport, culture and tourism in our region. It would be hugely satisfying if the 2025 championship would inspire people to take part in sporting activities and motivate our youngest generation to enjoy sports. For young people, sport plays a very important role in teaching them not only how to win, but also how to deal with setbacks and defeats – to pick themselves up and move forward. And I’m confident that they’ll gain great inspiration from the determination and willpower that will be on show from all the teams participating in the tournament.”

Czech Floorball’s Daniel Novák expressed his gratitude for the financial support the organizers have received: “Without funding from the national, regional and city budgets, it would not be possible to organize such a major sporting event. We’re very grateful for the financial contributions that we have received from Ostrava and the Moravian-Silesian Region. This funding has been a major factor in the success of our bid to stage the championship after a twelve-year gap – and I’m very confident that the players, organizing teams and fans will all enjoy an unforgettable experience in Ostrava.

Filip Šuman, Vice-President of the International Floorball Federation (IFF), summed up his organization’s standpoint: “From the IFF’s point of view, Czech Floorball is one of the very best organizers in the world, so all the participating countries have great expectations. I’m confident that the championship in Brno and Ostrava will once again show that Czech fans can create a wonderfully passionate atmosphere, so all the participants, wherever they come from, will have a fantastic experience in 2025.
