On 24 June 2025, the 64th edition of the prestigious international athletics meeting, the Golden Spike, took place at the Municipal Stadium in Ostrava-Vítkovice. The spectators created a fantastic atmosphere, which was reflected in the performances and determination of the athletes, among whom were some of the biggest names in world athletics. The phenomenal Swedish pole vaulter Armando Duplantis competed in Ostrava for the fourth time and, as in previous years, shone brilliantly to claim gold. This year, he sweetened his victory by improving his personal best by a full centimetre, thereby raising the meet record to 6.13 metres.

Australian sprinter Gout Gout made his debut at the Golden Spike, immediately turning his first appearance into a gold medal. He won the 200-metre race in 20.02 seconds, setting a new Australian national record. The parade of broken meet records continued with the female runners. South African Prudence Sekgodis broke the women’s 800-metre meet record, which had stood for 21 years, taking gold in a time of 1:57.16. Bahrain’s Salwa Eid Naser claimed the 400 metres gold, smashing the meet record from 1983 with a time of 49.15 seconds.

Czech athletes also shone before the Ostrava crowd. Amálie Švábíková won her first-ever gold at this meeting, overcoming difficulties in her early attempts. Her final mark of 4.66 metres secured her victory. In the high jump, Czech Jakub Štefela earned silver with a clearance of 2.24 metres, while Vít Müller took bronze in the 400 metres hurdles with a time of 48.41 seconds, improving his personal best. Half-miler Jakub Dudycha finished fifth, setting a new Czech record in the discipline with 1:44.48.
