Shared bikes will be back next year
Bicycle sharing has completed its first season in Ostrava. The bikes were used by more than 16,000 users, who have travelled the distance of 130,000 kilometers.

Ostrava supercomputing centre to increase capacity and get an upgrade
The upgrade of HPC systems for the IT4Innovations National Supercomputing Centre will extend the Anselm cluster. The supercomputer will have a theoretical performance of more than 800 teraflops per second, making it more than 8 times as powerful as its predecessor commissioned in 2013. The computing capacities of the systems operated by IT4Innovations are available to the entire scientific community of the Czech Republic as part of grant competitions.
Porsche Engineering Services opened its branch in Ostrava
Porsche Engineering Services (PES), a provider of development services, has officially opened its branch in Ostrava yesterday. It currently employs more than 20 people, which should increase to 50 by the end of 2020. The company will focus on research and development of current automotive trends such as electromobility, autonomous driving and smart mobility.
The innovation center looked back on a successful year
The Moravian-Silesian Innovation Center (MSIC) held an annual meeting after a year and a quarter from its start. Entrepreneurs, technology visionaries and shareholders' representatives participated. The meeting, titled Innovation consomme - "Inovační vývar", summed up the best of what has been achieved in the innovation ecosystem.
Chinese company to modernize the Ostrava chemical plant
The Memorandum of Cooperation between the Moravian-Silesian Region, the City of Ostrava and the Shandong Province of China is becoming more specific. Wanhua Industrial Group, the Chinese owner of BorsodChem MCHZ, has confirmed a CZK 800 million investment in modernizing its Ostrava company.

New car parks to relieve the centre of Ostrava
Hundreds of new parking spaces will be built near the City Centre. Collaborative Robotics Centre opened
A new Collaborative Robotics Centre has been opened at the Moravian-Silesian Innovation Centre (MSIC) in Ostrava, in cooperation with the Moravian-Silesian Automotive Cluster. The new centre will act as a magnet for know-how in this rapidly emerging field; it will enable all companies from the Region to test and pilot their collaborative robotics technologies prior to full implementation.
Who is to use IT4Innovations computational resources and for what?
46 successful projects submitted by eight institutions have been allocated over 55 million core-hours in the IT4 Innovations National Supercomputing Centre. The projects with the greatest amount of allocated computation time fall within the field of material science.
The Ostrava Teardrop: An attractive site in the heart of the city is being offered for sale
The Karolina area – directly adjacent to Ostrava's historic city centre and now the location of a brand-new modern quarter – represents an outstanding opportunity for development. The City is offering for sale a premium site at Karolina; the land – which is in the shape of a teardrop – is on level ground and covers an area of almost 8 300 m2. By freeing up the land for development, the City of Ostrava is supporting a further expansion of the city centre to strengthen the links between the historic part of the centre and the modern Karolina quarter, with its residential complex, office facilities and retail/entertainment mall.
Ostrava will have new trams for 200 persons
The Board of Directors of the Ostrava Transport Company (DPO) and subsequently its Supervisory Board unanimously approved the purchase of 40 new trams for 200 persons for CZK 1.9 billion from Škoda Transportation. ForCity Smart, the latest generation of trams, will carry the first passengers in Ostrava in the autumn of 2020. Ostrava will be the first city in the Czech Republic and Central Europe to have these trams in operation.
