The highly anticipated international tennis Davis Cup took place at the RT Torax Arena in Poruba, which welcomed the popular tournament back for the first time since 2018. Following the draw for the specific qualifying matches held at the New City Hall in Ostrava, spectators in Poruba were treated to a showdown between the Czech tennis players and their South Korean counterparts. 

The law establishes the so-called nighttime quiet period from 10 PM to 6 AM. However, it also allows municipalities to shorten this period in exceptional cases by issuing generally binding regulations. Ostrava grants these exceptions exclusively to cultural, sports, and social events that significantly contribute not only to local but often also to regional cultural life, thus greatly enhancing the city's attractiveness for both its residents and visitors.

A new fully enclosed shooting range will be constructed on the site of the historically known shooting range on Plzeňská Street. On Wednesday, January 8, 2026, the Directorate of Roads and Highways (ŘSD) will close one of the bridges on Rudná Street in the Svinov local district. The closure will also affect Polanecká Street, over which the local bridges run. Preparatory work will begin at the site ahead of the actual demolition. Motorists and, the public transport bus lines will experience traffic restrictions.

Ostrava has implemented its own construction regulations. The "Ostrava Construction Regulations" provide detailed guidelines on how buildings should look and the standards that should be followed in Ostrava. This framework allows for a better consideration of the city's unique developmental needs, which differ significantly from those of a typical Czech city. 

The city of Ostrava has launched an architectural competition for the design of a new football stadium at Bazaly. Recently, they invited applications for participation in the competition titled "New Bazaly." This milestone follows several months of preparation, beginning with the development of a feasibility study to assess the capacity of the new football stadium. 

The city of Ostrava plans to operate with a budget of 14.476 billion crowns in 2025. Of this amount, 4.976 billion crowns (34.4 %) is earmarked for investments.

The Archimedes Outdoor Classroom was established this year at the Primary School in Ostrava-Radvanice, making it the first of its kind in the Moravian-Silesian Region. The statutory city of Ostrava has approved the terms and conditions for the architectural competition aimed at selecting the design proposal for the FC Baník Ostrava football stadium at Bazaly. Proposals from potential contractors must comply with all current UEFA criteria for hosting international matches across all football categories, including national team games.

The Program for Education Support and Talent Management is focused on promoting projects aimed at the development of technical and scientific fields, enhancing literacy in reading and mathematics, systematically supporting gifted individuals, managing talent development, and creating conditions for exceptional talents within the city of Ostrava.

On Sunday, November 17th, students from the University of Ostrava (OU) and the VŠB — Technical University of Ostrava (VŠB-TUO) organized another anniversary of the memorial event titled "Journey to the Light." This occasion, held with the support of the statutory city of Ostrava, commemorated the anniversaries of the events of 1939 and 1989.
