The University of Ostrava has opened a new Welcome Centre

8/10 2018

By creating a new Welcome Centre right in the historical centre of Ostrava, the University of Ostrava creates an imaginary gateway to its world, helping to connect the university life with the life in the city.

The University of Ostrava has opened a new Welcome Centre

The Welcome Centre of the University of Ostrava is a contact point not only for students, but also for those interested in studying at the University of Ostrava, its graduates and the general public. They can use in particular the services of the new Counselling Centre. It also includes the Centre for International Cooperation, which brings to Ostrava more students and academic staff not only from Europe but from all over the world, and at the same time allows students and academic staff to go on study trips which go far beyond university standards. Also part of the Welcome centre is the Centre of Marketing and Communication and the University Bookshop, which is open to the general public.

The Counselling Centre is a great new addition to the Welcome Centre. It offers services of professionals from various fields (from career and study advisors, to psychologists and social workers), helping to comprehensively address different life situations. The Counselling Centre also focuses on the labour market requirements and the skills that employers lack in graduates.

However, the University has not opened the Centre only due to self-interest, that is, more satisfied students, more successful graduates and more enthusiastic prospective students. Its motivation is also to contribute to the development of the region through young active people.

The opening ceremony and the Open Day will be held on October 17 from 10am to 2pm.

A similar addition is the new Career Centre of VŠB - Technical University of Ostrava, which was opened at the campus in late September. In addition to jobs and internships, students will be offered courses, training and practical activities related to the improvement in soft skills and personality development. Open year-round, the Centre will also include other student services, such as Contact Point for foreign students, premises for student organizations or Confucius Class.
