Ostrava is an important communication and transportation hub for the Northern Moravia and Silesia. The International Airport Ostrava-Mošnov, 25 km from the City centre, belongs to the biggest regional airports in the Czech Republic. The City has got 5 railway stations and it currently constructs the Freeway D 47. The public transport in the City is served by almost 90 municipal bus, trolley-bus, and tram lines.

There are about 30 accommodation facilities of all different categories in the area of Ostrava. Their year round capacity utilises almost 3 000 beds. Only few visitors can resist to the visit of Stodolní Street with more than 70 night bars, restaurants, and clubs. 

Tourists, but also the public and residents are served by the Ostrava Info Service with its 5 branches. Ostrava provides, as the only city in the Czech Republic, for the Integrated Municipal Rescue Service, which is organised by the Emergency Call Centre, where all emergency call lines are centralised (Police, Fire-fighters, and Rescue Service).
