Project will be introduced at MIPIM Cannes

16. 2. 2010

The international (real estate) investment opportunity trade fair MIPIM will be held in Cannes, France on March 16-19, 2010. The City of Ostrava traditionally attends the trade fair, introducing investment opportunities and its offer of available development grounds. The focus of this year’s trade fair will be Ostrava’s importance as a developing city that is most suitable for investments also through its candidacy for the title of European Capital of Culture 2015. An indelible component of Ostrava’s candidacy in this prestigious title is the implemented public – city planning competition with international participation in a design for revitalizing the territory of the Black Meadow Exhibition Grounds found right in the center of the metropolis.

City representatives are prepared to meet with partners, registered and potential candidates and those interested in information concerning this competition and others. They’ll welcome you at stand no. 08.30.-10.29 on the 1st floor of the Festival Palace.

The competiton is annouced

2. 2. 2010

Since the 1st of February a public urban planning competition has been announced for the revitalization of Black Meadow in Ostrava. The deadline for proposals is 31 May. In June, the competition jury will convene. The city could then announce the winning proposal by 30 June 2010.

The task of the competition is to draw up a proposal for the spatial and functional concept for Black Meadow. The competition is not concerned with the form of individual structures, but rather it concerns the use of the entire grounds. The cluster should integrate the existing buildings into a functional whole, reconstruct unused and neglected buildings, and supplement them with new and needed structures serving cultural and educational purposes as well as housing. Black Meadow also should have a new concert hall, municipal gallery, centre for modern music, creative incubator combined with a school of arts management, complex of schools and residential buildings. The new buildings should conform to 21st-century construction requirements.
