Cycling trails and paths
The bicycle transport started to develop more significantly in Ostrava after 1989 in connection with the development in trade and services within this area and at the same time when the worldwide cycling boom became an important recreation activity. Bicycles had been used for transport to workplaces, services or for recreation before, but there had not been any above standard conditions (e.g. trails and marked or recommended routes) created. At the beginning of the 1990s, the first isolated trails for pedestrians and bike riders were built in Hrabová, Vítkovice and Kunčice and the project of a continuous route from Výškovice to Kunčice got under preparations. Since the mid 1990s, there have been funds released from the city budget, but also from budgets of some city suburbs, for the construction of further continuous sections of cycling routes.
