Ostrava’s “skyscraper” will undergo a complete reconstruction

The City Assembly has decided to sign a contract with the investor First Skyscraper s.r.o., which will carry out a complete reconstruction of the city-centre high-rise block known locally as “the skyscraper”, as well as building a new parking garage on the site. Both projects must be completed within no more than five years, i.e. by 2027.

City offers an attractive site for residential development at Středoškolská St.

At its session on Wednesday 23 March, Ostrava’s City Assembly approved plans to sell land in the Ostrava-Jih municipal district for a future residential development. The site, located between Středoškolská St. and U Studia St., has a total area of 12151 m². With excellent transport links and easy access to civic amenities, it offers an ideal location for an apartment complex. The deadline for submitting bids is 29 July 2022.

The City has received bids for the site of the future “Rezidence Stodolní” development

Ostrava is entering into negotiations on the sale of the real estate complex known as “Rezidence Stodolní” in the city centre. The investor is Linkcity Czech Republic a.s. The decision was taken by the City Council on 11 January after evaluating the two bids received.

We are seeking an investment partner for architect Eva Jiřičná’s reconstruction of the “Ostrava Skyscraper”

At its December 2021 session, Ostrava’s City Assembly approved the plans to sell the building on Ostrčilova Street known locally as the “Ostrava Skyscraper” (including the drafts of the relevant contracts). On 14 December 2021, the City Council decided to announce a public tender for the reconstruction of this high-rise landmark. The project has been designed by the world-renowned Czech architect Eva Jiřičná and Petr Vágner at their AI DESIGN studio.

At its November 2021 session, Ostrava’s City Assembly approved a key document setting out the City’s vision for education in the period up to 2030. The education strategy defines core priorities: literacies and competencies for children and students, equal opportunities in education, talent management, careers guidance, civic education, cooperation between the City and schools across Ostrava, education infrastructure, the development of universities, intercultural education and foreign language teaching, and the integration of education and sport. The strategy covers all types of educational provision: both formal and informal, as well as extracurricular activities and lifelong learning.

New bridge over the Ostravice River will become a city landmark

One of the current bridges over the Ostravice River, at Karolina in central Ostrava, is set to be replaced by a new structure designed by architect Roman Koucký. The new bridge will become a major landmark in a rapidly developing part of the city centre. The current bridge is in poor technical condition, and it is oversized for its purpose, so the decision has been made to demolish it and replace it.

The first of Ostrava’s planned parking garages is set to become a reality

The new parking garage at Ostrava’s City Hospital will be built by the contractor GEOSAN GROUP. Building work will begin just in a few days. The contractor was chosen by the City in a public tender. The garage will have seven levels, and it will quadruple the current parking capacity at the site, serving both hospital employees and the general public. The ground floor will contain a pharmacy, retail units and technical facilities. Completion is scheduled for the end of 2023. Alternative parking facilities will be provided during the construction work.
